Eye Level Art will host the panel discussion “Anger and Politics” on June 2nd amid the highly controversial show State of Shock by artist Fletcher Crossman.
Panelists include: College of Charleston Communication Dept. Chair Brian McGee, Charleston City Paper contributing writers Jack Hunter and Will Moredock, radio personality Richard Todd, Charleston Tea Party representative Mike Murphee, New York Hip-Hop artist Will Gray and artist Fletcher Crossman.
Nationally recognized, Washington, D.C. based political strategist Ryan Prucker will moderate the panel.
Eye Level Art's panel discussion "Anger and Politics" will investigate the role of anger in American politics both past and present. The discussion is spurred by Crossman's exhibit State of Shock, in which the artist explores the role of anger in politics after the hypothetical assassination of President Barack Obama. The first half of the event is reserved for featured panelist discussion with the second half open to community questions and talk-back.
This event is free and open to the public. Seating is, however, limited and participants are encouraged to arrive early.
Doors are at 6pm and the discussion will begin promptly at 7pm.
Featured Panelists
Brian McGee Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication and Faculty Associate in Women's and Gender Studies. Dr. McGee’s courses at the College of Charleston and elsewhere have focused on such topics as political communication, advertising, American public address, leadership, argumentation and debate, conflict management, gender and communication, parliamentary procedure, and public speaking. Dr. McGee’s primary research focuses on rhetoric and race, and he also has research interests in political communication, argumentation, communication ethics, and communication administration.
Jack Hunter "The Southern Avenger" Jack Hunter is a radio personality for WTMA 1250 AM talk radio in Charleston, South Carolina, a columnist for the Charleston City Paper and a regular contributor toThe American Conservative magazine. Jack is also a frequent guest host for the Mike Church Show on Sirius/XM satellite radio, a frequent guest on Michael Savage's nationally syndicated radio program "The Savage Nation," and isa contributing editor for "Young American Revolution," the publication ofYoung Americans for Liberty.
Will Moredock Will Moredock is a South Carolina native, with degrees in journalism from the University of
Georgia and the University of South Carolina. He is an award-winning journalist, author of Banana Republic: A Year in the Heart of Myrtle Beach. Moredock is currently a freelance writer and adjunct professor at the College of Charleston.
Richard Todd Richard Todd is a 20-year plus veteran of the airwaves in Charleston.
Fletcher Crossman Fletcher Crossman is a British artist with a passion for realistic, large scale paintings directed in social commentary. As of late, he has been working on much more personal, large scale paintings that showcase his views of a society with disturbing political motivations. His work has been described as "radically different" and "larger than life," and hopes to inspire moderation in speech and actions.
Mike Murphee Mike Murphree owns a construction business in Berkeley County. A graduate of Francis Marion University with a BS in Economics, he served on the Board of Trustees of Francis Marion from 1988 - 1997 and on Dorchester County Council from 2004 - 2008. Mike is currently the Chairman of the Charleston Tea Party and lives with his wife and three children in Summerville.
Will Gray Will Grayʼs performance, songwriting, and production skills have been recognized and celebrated by some of the music industryʼs and corporate worldʼs biggest leaders and innovators (Motorola, PlayStation, Ford, Billboard, MTV, CBS, Warner Brother Records). He is an independent Hip-Hop/Americana artist that has shared the stage with recording artists such as Erykah Badu, Jurassic 5, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Crash Test Dummies, Whild Peach (Outkast’s live band), Los Lonely Boys, Jars of Clay, Jimmy Buffett, and Ruben Studdard.
